The device arrived in three days. It looked like a set of neck headphones, but with small red lights instead of speakers.
The protocol was simple: 30 minutes a day. I could watch TV, read, work on the computer—didn't matter. Just had to wear it consistently.
Week 1:
The ringing seemed... slightly quieter? But I couldn't tell if it was real or if I just wanted it to be real.
Maybe dropped from a constant 9 out of 10 to an 8. The brain fog was still there.
Week 3:
Okay, the ringing was definitely quieter. Down to maybe a 6. I could watch TV without needing subtitles for the first time in years.
But the memory problems? Still there. I still forgot where I put my keys twice that week.
I remember thinking: Maybe this only helps the ringing. Not the brain stuff.
Week 5:
Something shifted.
I was reading an article online and realized I'd actually retained what I read. I could summarize it. That hadn't happened in... I don't know how long.
The next day, my neighbor walked by. I said "Hey Tom" without even thinking about it.
His name just... came to me. No scrambling. No panic.
Week 7:
The ringing was down to maybe a 3. Just a faint hum that I only noticed in complete silence.
But here's what really got me:
I went to the hardware store for a specific part. Walked straight to the right aisle. Bought what I needed. Drove home.
No standing there confused. No forgetting why I came. I almost cried in the parking lot.
Week 9:
My wife said something while we were watching TV.
"You seem... sharper. Like you're actually here again."
The ringing was barely noticeable. Maybe a 1 or 2. Background hum at most.
But the real change?
I felt like myself again.
Not the foggy, frustrated version who forgot his phone three times in ten minutes.
The version who could think clearly. Remember things. Hold a conversation without losing track.
I had my mind back.
